Understanding Inflammation
There are two main types of inflammation:
1. Acute Inflammation
This is short-term and a natural part of the body’s healing process.
Examples: Sore muscles after running 10 miles, or an acute ankle sprain.
2. Chronic Inflammation
This is long-term, low-grade inflammation that persists without noticeable improvement.
Examples: Joint pain, bloating, constant fatigue.
Symptoms of Chronic Inflammation:
Chronic inflammation doesn’t always present as pain. Common symptoms may include:
Constant fatigue
Brain fog
Eczema
Common Causes of Chronic Inflammation:
Diets high in processed and junk foods
Excessive sugar consumption
High stress levels
Poor gut health
Sedentary lifestyle
Alcohol, smoking, and exposure to environmental toxins
How to Know if You Have Inflammation?
Ask your doctor to run the following blood tests:
1. High-Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hs-CRP)
A key marker of inflammation
Ideal range: under 1 mg/L
Levels above 3 mg/L indicate an increased risk of inflammation
2. Ferritin
Levels may spike when inflammation is present
High ferritin with normal or low iron levels may signal chronic inflammation
Tips to Reduce Inflammation:
Minimize intake of highly processed foods
Incorporate regular physical activity
Focus on eating whole, nutrient-dense foods
Monitor your health through regular blood work
