3 Simple Self-Care Ideas

The holiday season can be stressful. Let’s not forget that while taking care of others, you need to carve up some time for yourself too.

Self-care is a way to enhance your well-being and the activities for self-care can vary. Here are some quick, easy, and free ideas you can try:

1) Take a mindful moment

Breathing exercise is a great way to calm the mind and refocus. I do this every time I feel agitated or overwhelmed.

Get comfortable. Relax your jaw, close your eyes, sit up straight, and drop your shoulders. Set a timer for 1 minute. Breathe slowly and deeply. Notice how your breath moves through your body. Open your eyes slowly and notice how centered you are.

2) Earthing

Our lifestyle is very sedentary. We are on computers a lot and sitting down for work or school. We forgot what’s its like to play outside and enjoy the sunshine and be in nature.

Walking, biking, or hiking

Forest bathing

Gardening

3) Limit your screen time

Since early 2020, screen time (phones/ tablets) increased by 80% for American adults. Exposure to blue light has been linked to sleep issues, depression, and anxiety. Poor posture while looking at gadgets have led to tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and neck aches. Once in a while, it is good to unplug and have real conversations.
